Arvind Gupta, University of TorontoCurrently the Academic Director of Professional Programs of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto, Professor Arvind Gupta has long been a supporter of the Fields Institute, involved in the activities and management of the Institute on many levels. His esteemed career has bridged the worlds of both academia and industry; he has served as President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of British Columbia, and as the CEO and Scientific Director of Mitacs Inc. A key figure in the Canadian science community, he was also instrumental in the creation of two Fields Institute peers in Canadian mathematics research: the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences and the Banff International Research Station in Mathematical Innovation and Discovery. Professor Gupta served as a member of the Fields Institute Board of Directors from 2016-19, and as Chair from July 2018 to December 2019. Along with his leadership and vision, he brought to Fields his expertise in fostering initiatives to improve Canadian productivity and competitiveness by enhancing workforce skills through industry and academic partnerships. Throughout his time on the Board, he steered Fields towards growth and outreach, as the Institute launched Fields CQAM in 2018, and a partnership with the National Research Council of Canada in 2019. His exceptional dedication and support of the Institute is ongoing, as he continues to offer expert advice, helping to guide Fields through new transitions and developments. |

Sebastian Jaimungal, University of TorontoProfessor Sebastian Jaimungal is the current Director of the professional Masters of Financial Insurance Program and teaches in the Mathematical Finance Program and the PhD and MSc programs in the Department of Statistical Sciences at the University of Toronto. He is the current chair for the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) activity group in Financial Mathematics and Engineering, a managing editor of Quantitative Finance, and an associate editor for the SIAM Journal on Financial Mathematics, among others. Professor Jaimungal’s connection to Fields extends across several ongoing initiatives and projects at the Institute. He leads the successful Fields CQAM lab on Systemic Risk Analytics, which looks at both data-driven and model-driven research surrounding issues of systemic risk. He is also a lead organizer for the Fields Quantitative Finance Seminar, a centerpiece of the Commercial/Industrial program at the Fields Institute since 1995, and he serves on the steering committee of Fields Centre for Financial Industries.
