Blockchain Technology in Healthcare - Advances, Barriers and Challenges
Healthcare systems worldwide are struggling to deliver high quality patient care while attempting to contain ever-increasing healthcare expenditures. Blockchain technology has the potential to transform healthcare as it may help to improve patient outcome at reduced costs. Interestingly, even though the value proposition of blockchain technology in healthcare appears to be compelling, the 2019 Gartner hype cycle for blockchain business suggests that we may have to wait for at least another 10 years to see its mainstream adoption. During my presentation at BTS 2020, I will review current use cases of blockchain technology in healthcare, discuss barriers and challenges to adoption, and comment on paths forward.
Bio: Dr. Uli Broedl, MD, is Country Medical Director, Vice President Medical and Regulatory Affairs, and Co-Chair of the BI Incubator, an innovation lab that aims to create novel solutions to serve the needs of patients and the healthcare system, at Boehringer Ingelheim Canada. He is the medical representative of the company’s executive leadership team and oversees all aspects of clinical operations, clinical development, medical affairs, regulatory affairs, drug safety and clinical quality management.
