Mutations in the SNCA gene, which codes for Alpha-synuclein, reduces the effectiveness of the associated copper-binding domain which has been linked to an increase in Lewy bodies associated with Parkinson's disease. A phylogenetic analysis of the amino-acid sequence of the copper domain region is performed to determine the dN/dS value which determines a conservation level for this region.
