Bios:
Judi is a mathematics department head at St. Mary secondary school in Hamilton. She focuses on teaching grade 9 and 12 math as well as grade 11 introduction to computer science. She has developed a reputation as a transition specialist having developed GLE1OM to help students transition from grade 8to grade 9 mathematics and GLS4OM to help students transition from MCV4U1 into first year university mathematics. Her goal as a teacher is to spark joy in learning for all students and colleagues. She hasstriven to change the societal view that mathematics is an elitist endeavour reserved for the few that can do. She has developed a pedagogical practice that opens mathematics to all.
She was fortunate to have had the unique opportunity to learn from a provincial network of math educators through her involvement in the ministry of education CLIPS initiative. She was honoured to have been awarded the Waterloo's Society of Descartes Medal for her contribution to mathematics education.
Jeff Cummings is an Education Officer at TVO passionate about changing classroom experience and creating innovative learning experiences. During his career, Jeff has worked at the board system level to integrate technology to promote a vision of the creative classroom which shifts students into modern innovative learning spaces. Jeff has worked in the Math Knowledge Network Community Practice as a Co-lead where he has developed and integrated the Grade 10 Math + Coding mesh credit at Wellington Catholic District School Board. Jeff has worked extensively on integrating the provincial Virtual Learning Environment in classroom practice and has presented at numerous conferences on the topic.
Ian is an Education Officer with Educational Partnerships K-12, Digital Learning at TVO on secondment from Bluewater District School Board. Ian has over 20 years’ experience in education, including 15 years in the classroom, 3 years as a Technology Enabled Learning and Teaching Contact, and 3 years on secondment to the Ministry of Education. As part of his current role, Ian will be working closely with Indigenous and Northern Boards and their adoption of TVO resources. Ian is committed to inclusive and culturally relevant pedagogies and to exploring how digital technologies can support these goals.
