Abstract:
The Morse complexity of a manifold is the smallest number of handles present in a handle decomposition of the manifold. We will study this invariant in bordism (and homology) and give some examples. Like simplicial norm, this invariant is governed by the fundamental group. This is joint work with F. Manin and B. Tshishiku, and is related to earlier work of Gromov.
