I will discuss some interactions between polyhedral combinatorics and commutative algebra via tropical geometry. Tropical varieties are polyhedral degenerations of algebraic varieties, and they are useful for some problems in computational commutative algebra. I will also discuss some commutative algebra problems motivated by tropical geometry.
