In the first half of my talk I will give first an introduction to the category theoretical background of the tools I will be using in the second half. This will include adjunctions and monads, with some examples and some results of Van Osdol and Pelletier & Rosicky.
In the second half I will present my categorical characterization of C*-algebras in certain larger categories containing it - with outlined or full proofs, according to the request of the audience.
